We had directions to our flat but we got lost. Eventually found the flat, unloaded the car, took much needed showers and immediately headed out to see Maggie in the quarantine facility. We had directions to the facility but got lost. Finally we arrived to "prison" and were kindly directly to pin #69 or cell block #69 or Maggie's prison run #69. The first look at Maggie revealed to us a distressed dog and I couldn't help but get the water works going again. The facility is mostly concrete and wire with shelter for the dogs and wire fences. While we were there, dogs incessantly barked and a radio station was playing over an intercom to help "sooth the dogs from barking" as we were informed by the staff. After lots of petting, attempted play (Maggie wasn't interested) and tons of cooing, we got Maggie to lay down with us on her make shift bed and I finally stopped crying (to Rob's relief). We spend an hour and a half with Maggie and met two nice staff members from the facility. We left feeling a little better about Maggie but determined to return the next day with a fluffy bed and multiple treats for our girl.
Next, we set out to the heart of Melbourne city to the medical licensing office for Rob to present proof of identity and complete the paper work for his medical license here in Australia. We got lost en route to the office but once there, got a recommendation for an awesome restaurant for dinner. After dinner, we headed back to our flat, got lost then found and collapsed into our bed for the night. A productive but exhausting day indeed.
Today we were successful in obtaining mobile phone numbers and oh how sweet it is to have mobile access again. We purchased a navigation system for our car (Nevman brand) which helped us not only save our pending marriage but wasting time getting lost over again. We raided a pet supply shop for Maggie's comforts and "needs". Hit up IKEA, Kmart and the grocery store for some comforts of home and pantry items. Tonight Rob and I feel tired but have completed some much needed missions.

BULA, Suz & Rob, in the land down under! BULA is Fijian for hello so you will have to blog the Aussie greeting to educate us Americans ;)
ReplyDeleteIt is Sooooo good to hear of your adventures there in a blog site & I Love how you can add pics to your blog for a more complete story!! I guess I am officially a DUD (Down Under Doyles) blog site Groupie! :):) It sounds like you two did well on your long flight over there and I was relieved to see Maggie's pic. She looks good despite her prison surroundings and her prison sentence of 30 days will fly by now that she knows you are there too!
Thank goodness for Barbie!! Rob, you are a brave soul to drive the first day there. It would be odd to sit on the right side of the car to drive it and then drive on the left hand side of the road...Cheryl and I almost got hit just trying to cross the road as pedestrians in Fiji last summer...we were looking to the left when the cars were coming from the right...Whew!!
You two have had a productive 2 days there already and i hope you sleep well (it is 8am here in Colorado as I write this and midnight tonight there on the other side of the world!)
Love you,
Ruthie
love the posts you've done already with all the photos!! sooo glad you are now a blogger & can't wait to follow along. we miss you bad here, and mags too - bubs still heads for her water bowl every morning:) soon he'll forget it was there but it's nice to know he kind of remembers her!
ReplyDeletelove you guys!
It's weird to see Maggie with out her collar on, but so good to finally see her and know that she is okay! I think about you two many times throughout the day, and like Ruthie, I think I've become a "Dud" fan too! Yesterday while Andrej and I were going on a hike through Torrey Pines we ran into and helped out some German tourists who were stranded on the side of the road with a flat tire on their rental car. Not being from around here, and getting confused by some signs, they accidentally drove over one of those 'Do Not Enter, Severe Tire Damage!' road blocks. Other than getting lost, it sounds like you two are doing a lot better at navigating the new roads ahead of you! Well done! Can't wait for your next post!! Sending love from California!
